This is the exact reason modern progressives are so tiring. What contribution can a degree is women's studies provide to society? It's a pursuit that only the bourgeoisie can afford to make a career out of, while we scientist and engineers are simple proletariats working under the critical eye of the middle-class, privately educated elite. It's the same people who clamor for unfettered immigration and open borders while turning a blind eye to the fact that wages have been stagnant if not in a steady decline for decades. Can't you see a pattern? You're creating an artificial bottom that suppresses wages and keeps the gap between "us" and "them" growing at an alarming rate.

Nobody can justify to me the ridiculous cost of a college education anymore. I was getting calls from Ole Miss monthly until I finally snapped. I told the guy: "look man, you got your money from me. I paid for a service you provided it. Why would I give you any more? Are you going to lower tuition for my kids? Are they going to be exempted from future parking tickets if they go to Ole Miss? NO? Oh okay well I'm not giving you free money as if you did me a 'favor' by educating me."

A college degree will get you to an interview today. You pay a fortune and get to put some extra ink on your resume.

I'll need to see if I can find the story of the guy trying to convince people it is our civic duty to default on our student loans because he was led to believe he could be anything he wanted and make a career out of it. So he went to Brown or Columbia to become a writer acquiring $100k in loans and then had to get a job at Walmart because he couldn't make it as a writer.

Those colleges will just raise their prices because of it.

College is expensive because of grants, loans and scholarships. If not for that colleges would have to cut spending, bloated salaries and be really competitive to make money hand over fist like they do now. Think about it, if the government gave everyone 20,000 to get a car or gave everyone a loan for a car even if they were making 0 dollars, wouldn't the prices of cars skyrocket because everyone would be buying a new car? Everyone would want a more expensive car and there would be 0 competition in the market, you could make a shit car and sell it for more because some idiot would buy it since they would be using government money. They would just be pumping out cars and raising prices more and more.

Here is a much better idea that I had, get rid of grants, federal scholarships, high interest rate student loans and replace it with an online college that you could pay a few different schools to run, like University of Phoenix type of thing. Departments of it could be run by different universities that bid on creating and running each department for the federal contract and money, if they go over budget then there would be repercussions in the contract. Then put the board of education in charge of the administration side of it since they currently do nothing.

Let everyone attend it for free that has a diploma or GED and a required ACT or SAT minimum. Use e-books, if students want to buy hard copies they can, if a student fails out or quits they would have to pay a small fee to attend again then after a 2nd try they would have to pay a little more each time.

For in person classes use local community colleges and public universities for the handful of classes that are needed in person.

This could cover pretty much every tech job, teaching degrees, business degrees, journalism, administrative, engineering, really you could do about anything that requires an associate or bachelors degree something like nursing they would just have to watch video and use chats to interact with teachers then take a few courses in person for the physical side of it.

THINK ABOUT IT FREE COLLEGE FOR ANYONE THAT WANTS TO GO, AND IT WOULD SAVE THE GOVERNMENT MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS, AND NO ONE WOULD HAVE THESE RETARDED HIGH STUDENT LOANS.

We have crazy technology today and we don't use it for education it is hilarious, we pay 1000s 10000s to go to these fucking stupid ass college courses to listens to lectures that could be done over video and be taught through smartphones, computers, tablets, live chats, message boards, e-books, online quizes, online tests. The internet is the most powerful information resource by a huge landslide and we don't even use the fucking thing to make education cheap. I personally taught myself my career through videos, books, google searches, I don't have a degree but I know more about my field than just about anyone that just went to college to learn about it did and I saved myself 100k while doing that.
