for sexual assault :sadyes

Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane has been accused of sexual assault, and police in Hamburg, New York, the player's offseason home, are investigating, The Buffalo News reported Thursday.

The incident allegedly occurred last weekend.

According to the newspaper's sources, who are in law enforcement, the woman who has accused Kane went to a hospital, where a rape kit was administered.

Neighbors of Kane told the Chicago Tribune that police arrived at his lakefront property Sunday night and that several plainclothes officers entered his house using flashlights. At least one wore gloves and was seen taking pictures out front.

Kane, 26, has not been charged. Last summer, he signed an eight-year, $84 million contract with the Blackhawks. Kane was scheduled to bring the Stanley Cup to Buffalo this weekend, but it's unclear whether that will happen.

"We are aware of the matter and are in the process of gathering information," the team said in a statement Thursday. "It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."

Kane's agent, Pat Brisson, issued a statement that first referred to the Blackhawks' release, noting the team is gathering information and reviewing reports. Brisson then added: "It would not be appropriate to provide further comment at this time."

The NHL said it is "following developments" in the investigation.

Neither Hamburg Police Chief Gregory G. Wickett nor Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III would comment on specifics when reached by ESPN on Thursday.

Said Sedita: "We neither confirm nor deny the existence or nonexistence of an investigation until such time as someone has been charged with a crime."

Wickett said it is department policy not to release any information to the public or the media unless an arrest has been made.

:dunno

I do know that until he is charged, we are to assume he's guilty. If he is not charged, we will know for certain that he is guilty. If he is charged and found not guilty, he's guilty and the courts have failed us.

These darn sex assault cases are hard to believe for me. Last time I checked, you don't have to rape hoes. Panties just come right off especially when you have money.

Hamburg (New York) Police Chief Gregory Wickett confirmed to reporters on Friday morning that his department is investigating an incident that allegedly occurred at the home of Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane last weekend.

Wickett said his department is waiting on forensic results but does not currently have a time frame for new developments.

According to The Buffalo News, Kane is under investigation for an alleged sexual assault that took place at his lakefront home in Hamburg.

The News also reported that a woman underwent treatment at a local hospital, where a rape kit was administered.

Kane, 26, was scheduled to have his day with the Stanley Cup in his hometown of Buffalo on Saturday, though it was not immediately clear whether the event would go on as planned.

he Hockey Hall of Fame is responsible for overseeing the Cup while it's being hosted by players and team officials. Hall spokeswoman Kelly Masse referred questions to the Blackhawks, by saying they are responsible for scheduling each visit.

The Blackhawks have not returned messages.

The Cup was already in the Buffalo-area on Friday for a private function at the home of former coach Scotty Bowman, who serves as a Blackhawks senior adviser, and whose son Stan is the team's general manager.

This is not Kane's first brush with the law. Kane, who signed an eight-year, $84 million deal last summer, was arrested on assault charges against a cab driver in New York in 2009. Kane ultimately pleaded guilty to a noncriminal charge of disorderly conduct, and he and his cousin were ordered to send an apology to the cab driver.

No charges have been filed against Kane in the current investigation.

High-profile Buffalo attorney Paul J. Cambria Jr. confirmed to ESPN.com via email that he will be representing Kane in this matter but declined to comment on the investigation at this time.

Cambria, of Buffalo-based legal firm Lipsitz Green Scime Cambria, also represented Kane in his 2009 arrest.
