What is the point of lent? They punish themselves by abstaining from meat, yet they can still eat shrimp and fish

It is all tied to a government decision from what I've heard a long time ago and simply held on. It was either fisher man needed assistance or meat was a problem. Can't remember exactly...google it. Well the rule isn't that they can't eat meat, it is that they cannot eat the flesh of warm blooded animals. And technically it is only 2 days they are not supposed to eat that, but most do it every Friday until Easter.

living in louisiana i would think there is plenty of fish and shrimp available on all menus all year. but whatever i'm not some coon ass cajun cunt
