I hate the waves on the Gulf Coast.

I’ve lost 2 pair of prescription sunglasses in Gulf Shores. I like the Atlantic coast beaches better. They have nice sized waves, but they are more controlled, unlike the gulf.

I grew up in Destin/Ft Walton Beach. Grew up surfing. Waves are not ideal for surfing there. Unless a tropical system is nearby.

I’d love to surf, looks so fun. I could do it, if I lived closer to the ocean of course. We just use the body board and wave surf like that when we go. Still fun though

It is what they say it is. Very zen like and peaceful. You should try. You need clean waves to really learn. The soup you get on the Gulf Coast is tough to learn. There was the random times the waves were good. Any wind coming straight from the South created slop and waves you couldn’t ride, even if they were really big.

I stopped when I busted my knee up and we moved to Atlanta for 11 years.

Yeah, you gotta be on the Atlantic for that. Even then, pretty meh. Bunny slopes of surfing.

We used to make road trips to the East Coast. Cocoa mostly but we planned the trips due to school breaks or time off work. Usually resulted in bad timing with small waves and uneventful surf trip.

We went to Cocoa twice last year and watched them out there learning to surf. Only reason I really haven’t done it, is buying all the stuff, only to use it for a couple days a year.

We weren’t able to go this year. We bought a new house and moved my grandmother, and 2 cousins with muscular dystrophy and epilepsy in with us, and we take care of them. So we weren’t able to go to the beach. We plan on going back to CB next year though.
